Establish Team Criteria
Create a set of criteria appropriate for the trip. This will help focus who should go and can be very helpful in sifting through the applications.
- Keep in mind the maximum number of team members you are willing or able to take
- Consider the following types of qualifications:
- Salvation: On some trips it's OK to take a few people who do not have a committed relationship with Jesus Christ (such as with a construction or medical project) and not expect that they become worshippers of the Lord. However, other trips require only a team of committed, mature believers.
- Age: Are they too young or too old for the trip? Can kids come along with their parents, providing an opportunity for them to minister together?
- Gender: Is there a need for gender-specific ministry?
- Skill and experience: Is the person able to successfully fulfill the tasks that the team has?
- Health: Are there any medical conditions about the destination that make it unwise for a person to travel there?
- Personal convictions: Does this person have any strong perspectives, beliefs that might hinder the work of the team?
- Team player: Does the person have a history of working well with others?
- Previous team experience: Has this person been on other ministry teams, locally or internationally and was their presence a blessing?
